How Does Acne Develop?

Acne occurs in sebaceous glands and ducts related to hyperkeratosis in follicular ducts and mostly seen on adolescents and young adults. Normal sebum flow disrupts and creates comedones.  Due to impaired sebum flows, sebum is decayed and bacteria increasingly settle in skin. Free oily acids called as Propionibacteria are formed and triggers inflammation in surrounding skin texture. Inflammatory content enters into the area by exploding sebaceous glands. This situation causes red pimples (papule), pustule and nodules.

Another important factor of acne is hormone balance. Production volume of the oil produced by body and size of sebaceous glands are affected by hormones.  Androgens (male hormones) increase sebaceous glands and their activities. Oestrogens (female hormones) decrease sebaceous glands and their activities. Pimple problem is common mostly on face as well as on chest and back in V-shape and lateral sections of upper arms.
